TURKISH BATTERY COMPANY EXPANDS CAPACITY AND JOINS MBF

Jul 17, 2024 | Maritime business news

Turkish company Ottomotive Tech is the latest battery manufacturer to join  the Maritime Battery Forum, a global community of maritime battery enablers.

Founded in 2021, Ottomotive Tech offers support for products, engineering and consultancy in various sectors including maritime energy storage systems.  The company’s experience includes system engineering from scratch to pre-serial production, followed by production, test, homologation and delivery. Ottomotive Tech plans to commission its new battery packaging facility in September 2024, which will enable automated module production for both prismatic and blade cells with an annual capacity of 3GWh.

The company has been interested in maritime battery projects since its foundation. The initial focus was on the automotive market, but given Ottomotive’s knowledge of battery management, charging, pack architecture and other electrification systems as well as the growing demand for batteries in the maritime industry, Ottomotive Tech began delivering battery packs and software for hotel loads in marine vessels.

Today, the company is developing its own modular marine energy storage systems for propulsion and other applications.  With the development of hybrid propulsion systems and marine battery storage systems, Ottomotive Tech says it can offer systems of 500kWh or more for hotel loads and other purposes. The company says its high performance and innovative solutions (including battery packs, BMS, charge control units and PCB designs) provide a cleaner and more efficient alternative to traditional fuel-powered engines, reducing carbon emissions and paving the way towards a greener future.

Furthermore, Ottomotive Tech says it is committed to participating in regulation and standardisation studies, new technology development projects, working groups and other forum activities that will enable the acceleration of maritime electrification.
