Dutch contractor Gebr van der Lee has ordered a sustainable Beagle 4 trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) from IHC Dredging.

The customer was looking for a sustainable trailing suction hopper dredger with this hopper volume available at short delivery. The ecological footprint of the trailing suction hopper dredger was an important selection criterion.

Eddy van der Lee, general director Gebr van der Lee said: “Rijkswaterstaat, the client of many Dutch dredging projects, focuses on the use of cleaner dredgers. That is why we wanted to be convinced that the new trailing suction hopper dredger scores well on the environmental cost indicator, a critical success factor for winning tenders. IHC Dredging has succeeded in doing that.”

The Beagle 4 is has an optimised hull shape for the lowest resistance and is equipped with an efficient engine room. This combination results in fuel efficiency with low GHG emissions. Together with exhaust gas treatment that meets IMO Tier III emission standards, the Beagle 4 is a sustainable addition to the current fleet.

Ronald van Son, Director Dredging Custom Vessels, IHC Dredging, said: “This order is a textbook example of supply and demand coming together at the right time. The technical specifications and short delivery time of the Beagle 4 perfectly matched the wishes of Gebr van der Lee. We are extremely proud of this collaboration and the fact that this Beagle 4, which was built entirely in the Netherlands, will also be working in the Netherlands.”

The Beagle series offers hopper volumes ranging from 4,000 to 12,000 m3. The Beagle is designed for a wide range of dredging activities at high efficiency and maximum uptime.
