Swedish company Sirius Shipping has placed an order of four 7,999 dwt oil/chemical tankers at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, Dingheng.
The 119.9 m long vessels, known as the Evolution 8K series, will be equipped with highly efficient propulsion and will feature technology enabling compliance with future environmental regulations. They follow an order for two 15,000dwt Evolution 15K vessels placed earlier in 2024.
Sirius Shipping CEO Jonas Backman said: “A lot of hard work has finally paid off and we are very excited. These vessels are an important step towards our vision – to become the long- term first choice, for our colleagues, customers, and for the society. The vessels will of course be built to Sirius standard and incorporate the latest technology for future compliance.”
The new vessels are a new update from the success from Sirius’ previous 7,999dwt vessels Saturnus and Mercurius, with lower fuel consumption and low emission technologies, with a hybrid battery installation of 420kWh for peak shaving, for both main and auxiliary engines. A shore power system of 1000kW will be installed which enables the vessels to perform zero emission loading and discharging in port. EEDI is estimated to be 40% below the 2025 Phase III requirements.
The new vessels have been designed by Sirius in collaboration with FKAB to provide the highest levels of sustainability, efficiency and safety as well as excellent working conditions and comfortable living quarters for the crew. The tanks will be able to handle 11 grades of cargo and the ships will be built to Ice Class 1A.
