Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) and Seaspan Energy of Canada have successfully completed their first LNG bunkering in Western North America.
A MOL-operated LNG-fuelled PCTC received LNG fuel from bunker ship Seaspan Garibaldi in English Bay, Vancouver. This is said to be the first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering for the Japanese Shipping Company in Western North America.
MOL says that it is actively promoting the spread of environmentally friendly LNG fuel and actively supports the expansion of global LNG fuel supply bases at major ports and regions. The company’s target is to archive net-zero by 2050 and it promotes the introduction of clean alternative fuels.
Harly Penner, President, Seaspan Energy said: “We are proud to share in this milestone with MOL as Lake Herman is the first car carrier to be fuelled by a Ship-to-Ship LNG bunkering in Western North America. We appreciate the trust from its customer and look forward to a long-lasting relationship.”
Yoshikazu Urushitani, GM Marine Fuel GX Division said: “Until now, there was no LNG fuel supply base in Western North America, and the deployment of LNG-fuelled vessels was limited. We are very pleased that we have succeeded in the first LNG bunkering for a car carrier in Western North America in collaboration with Seaspan Energy, which will expand the range of areas where we can deploy environmentally friendly LNG-fuelled vessels and provide customers with more options for expanding their clean supply chains. We will continue to conduct LNG bunkering based on the Ship-to-Ship basis to LNG-fuels vessels at other ports in Western North America.”
