NYK NAMES NEW DUAL-FUEL VLGC

Dec 29, 2022 | Shipbuilding & ship repair news

NYK of Japan has held a naming ceremony at the Sakaide Works of Kawasaki Heavy Industries for ‘Lantana Planet’ a new VLGC that NYK will charter to LPG company Astomos Energy Corporation.

The 229.9m vessel is a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dual-fuel VLGC of 86,500m3 capacity and a sister ship of Lupinas Planet, which was completed in September 2022. When LPG is used as fuel, exhaust gas from the ordered VLGC will contain at least 85% less sulfur oxide (SOx) and 15% less carbon dioxide (CO2) compared to conventional VLGCs equipped with HFO engines.

NYK will further strengthen its long-standing close relationship with Astomos Energy and promote the development of an eco-friendly fleet to contribute to a low-carbon supply chain and realise a sustainable society.
