Ship designer LMG Marin has provided retrofit ship design documentation a double-ended ferry which as undergone retrofitting at Fiskerstrand Verft in Norway.
This ferry was originally designed by LMG Marin as an LNG car ferry for Fjord1, and has operated the Haljem-Sandvikvåg route for many years under the name Fanafjord.
The retrofitting includes machinery upgrades with new main diesel engines featuring SCR systems and a new emergency generator. Safety enhancements encompass a new evacuation system and an additional MOB boat. To accommodate its new destinations, the bulbous bows and fenders have been modified while maintaining optimal performance. The passenger deck has been revitalized with an updated layout and facilities. The vessel, renamed Northumberland, has been adjusted to comply with Transport Canada regulations and current DNV Rules.
The Northumberland travelled across the Atlantic Ocean to its new base on the east coast of Canada, where it will replace the vessel Holiday Island on the route between Wood Islands, PEI, and Caribou, Nova Scotia.
