Swedish ship design company FKAB reports that ‘Lettie PG’, first of a series of three 10,600 dwt coated oil product and chemical tankers, was recently launched at CMJL Ding Heng shipyard.
This FKAB new tanker design has been tailored to owner PG Tanker’s special trading requirements. With FKAB’s patent F-Bow, extensive CFD optimisation for wave resistance and flow around the hull, and integrated design between twisted leading edge rudder, propeller and hull, the cavitation and hull pressure phenomena as well as the speed performance of this new design have been optimised for the given main dimension restrictions. Better water flow around the hull and low cavitation/pressure ensure lower underwater noise emission.
To further meet the client’s green initiative, a number of new technologies have been implemented into the design, including methanol fuel ready, peak-shaving power battery, with solar powered charging, emissions free discharge capability utilising shore power supply.
Richard Groves, newbuilding manager PG Tankers said: “Today saw the float out of our magnificent new vessel, and as such can I thank everybody involved at FKAB for the input into creating this masterpiece.”
Cooperation between PG Tankers, CMJL and FKAB during the design process helped create the great trust and friendship that has been established between the project teams from all parties. FKAB appreciates PG Tanker and CMJL’s continuing support and expects more cooperation in future projects.
