MOL TAKES DELIVERY OF GREEN MPV

Jan 30, 2025 | Shipbuilding & ship repair news

Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has taken delivery of the multi-purpose vessel (MPV) ‘Prima Verde’, operated by group company MOL Drybulk and effectively owned by Daishin Shipping, from Onomichi Dockyard of Kobe, Japan.

The vessel has a range of environmentally friendly features, and is believed to be the first vessel of any type to use green steel materials, an engine that can run exclusively on marine gas oil (MGO) and a wind assisted propulsion system.

JGreeX, a green steel material supplied by JFE Steel Corporation that is claimed to significantly reduce CO2 emissions, by allocating CO2 emission reductions in the manufacturing process to optional steel materials, is used for the vessel’s hull.

The vessel is equipped with an engine from Japan Engine Corporation designed to run exclusively on MGO. The engine has high combustion efficiency and low CO2 emissions during operation. It has two VentoFoil wind power assisted vessel propulsion devices from Duch company Econowind, for which MOL Techno-Trade serves as a sales agent. The installation is expected to reduce fuel consumption and GHG emissions by using wind power for propulsion.

The 129.7m 17,611 dwt vessels can transport steel products, construction machinery, heavy machinery, plants, railroad vehicles, and bulk cargoes. It will sail under the Liberian flag.
