MAN B&W LICENSEE REACHES 120m HORSEPOWER

Tokyo-based Mitsui E&S has now achieved accumulated engine production of 120 million horsepower snce the license agreement was first established some 96 years ago.

This milestone was achieved with a Mitsui-MAN B&W 7G95ME-C10.6-EGRTC engine, the 7,525th engine to go through the factory. This will be the main engine for a 13,700 TEU container ship to be built at Imabari Shipbuilding for Ocean Network Express.

Production of Mitsui-MAN B&W engines reached 100 million horsepower in June 2018, followed by another 20 million horsepower in the subsequent six and a half years. Since the first engine was built in 1928, accumulated production of 120 million horsepower has been achieved. In the current financial year, Mitsui E&S group expects its annual production of engines to amount to around 3.04m horsepower.

Since Mitsui entered into the license agreement with Burmeister & Wain of Denmark in 1926, now MAN Energy Solutions, the company has been building its experience and now regards itself as the leading marine propulsion system supplier.

Engine development at Mitsui E&S will continue in accordance with current market needs, including the development of dual-fuel engines for GHG reduction.

The landmark engine has seven cylinders of 950mm bore and 3,460mm stroke and is some 13.5m long, and 14.8m high.
