HYUNDAI WINS THREE-LNGC ORDER

HD Hyundai intermediate holding company Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering says it has won the first LNG carrier order of 2023, for three vessels, worth a total of 971.4bn won.

The company has signed a contract to build three 200,000m3 super-large LNG carriers with a shipping company located in Oceania. Each vessel is 299.8m length, 48.9m width, and 26.9m in height.

Since 2017, Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has been in a leading positionn, having won orders for the largest number of LNG carriers every year. In particular, in 2022, it won orders for 44 of the total 173 LNG carriers ordered globally.

Market analysis agency Clarkson Research has predicted that 2023’s LNG carrier order will reach 83 units, continuing the solid level from last year.

A Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering spokesperson said: “Inquiries about ordering LNG carriers have been ongoing since the beginning of the year.”
