The HiMSEN-Zero concept engine developed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) has been honoured with the iF Design Award 2025.
International Forum Design (iF) is considered to be the oldest and most respected independent German design organisation, having presented its Design Awards every year for more than 70 years. This award is seen as an official symbol of high-quality design.
According to HD HHI, the HiMSEN-Zero concept engine, which won in the Product Concept category, was selected from among nearly 10,000 entries from 66 countries for its innovative and outstanding design. The award recognised its “design distinction and eco-sustainability of a zero-carbon and eco-friendly engine” based on its innovative appearance, safe and efficient design solution and the eco-friendly engine technology.
HD HHI has previously won the Red Dot Design Award for Engine Control System (2021) and the iF Design Award for Product Design (2022). The HiMSEN-Zero concept is based on HD HHI’s medium speed four-stroke dual-fuel ammonia engine design, which is capable of zero-carbon operation when fuelled by green ammonia. The concept has been developed by HD HHI working with various international design partners.
