Japan Engine Corporation (J-Eng) says that its UEC42LSH engines, developed for middle/small size chemical tankers and handy-size bulk carriers, are strongly expanding its production thanks to strong market demand for handy-size bulk carriers.
The order book for this category is expected to total 30 units including firm and unofficial orders after the six series orders in 2020. The UEC42LSH engine is also increasing its market share in Chinese costal vessels. The recently partnered Chinese licensee, GDF, has received 20 unit orders in a short term.
These achievements are believed to be the result of efforts of the engine development concepts based on advance thorough market research, high fuel economy as one of UE engine’s features and advanced environmentally-friendly measures such as low-pressure EGR) and SCR, for which many ship owners and shipyards have been highly appreciative and accepted for their EEDI phase 3 vessels.
The UEC42LSH engines are expanding production after the first unit delivery in June 2021. This first unit entered service in March 2022 and J-Eng will further develop the model based on feedback from service results and work to further improve fuel economy and environmental friendliness responding to the fuel oil price hike and strong regard for the environment.
With more than 50 actual and potential UEC42LSH orders for domestic and worldwide markets, further expansion is expected with shipyards applying the engine as a standard selection.
