Oct 1, 2024 | Ship design & naval architecture news

German shipping company John T Essberger has placed an order for two 13,000 dwt chemical tankers with an option for four more vessels at Rainbow Shipyard in Nantong, China.

The vessels, designed by FKAB of Sweden, will have stainless steel tanks and be built to Ice class 1A. Delivery of the first vessel is scheduled for April 2027.

The new tankers will be equipped with engines capable of running on methanol, the use of environmentally friendly fuel. The investment coincides with Essberger’s 100th anniversary, celebrating a century of chemical transportation. Essberger is a partner of Stolt Nielsen in the E&S Pool.
