DUTCH PROGRAMME ENCOURAGES MARITIME SUSTAINABILITY

Sep 12, 2024 | Maritime business news

Rotterdam-based maritime start-up accelerator PortXL has presented its 2024 cohort of 10 start-ups and scale-ups, with the aims of connecting them to partners, mentors and members of the Rotterdam and Dutch innovation ecosystem, that will assist them in the coming months.

PortXL’s range of focus concentrates on the sustainable maritime, energy, logistics, and defence sectors. Representatives of PortXL’ s partners and other stakeholders – which include the Port of Rotterdam, Van Oord, City of Rotterdam, Damen Shipyards, GTT and MINDbase – joined the start-ups to ‘meet and greet’ and learn about the new technologies.

Christel Pullens, Director PortXL said: “We are proud and excited to welcome these 10 innovators to the PortXL programme and ecosystem and look forward to guiding them to both a higher level of maturity and to collaborations and customers.”

Among the nominated start-ups are:

  • Akros Energy, chemical storage for hydrogen as energy;
  • Carbon Blue and SeaO2, which both offer (differing) methods of removing excess carbon from sea water, allowing the sea to absorb more CO2 from the atmosphere;
  • Seadar, a system for detecting and tracking metallic pollutants from the ocean
  • Fjuel, shore power and energy storage infrastructure for ports;
  • HalioGen, a membraneless battery using abundant raw materials.

PortXL’s mission is to create an innovation ecosystem by connecting large and small organisations operating within the maritime cluster. It’s mentorship has led to many collaborations with established companies, experiments, business growth incorporating a wealth of experience and knowledge.
