Bahamas-based shipping company Veer Corporation has announced the granting of Approval in Principle (AiP) by ABS, which the company sees as a major step on its mission to build the first fleet of 100% clean, ocean-going container vessels.
In this project, Veer is partnered by Dutch naval architects Dykstra and project management team at Brookes Bell.
Veer CEO Danielle Doggett said: “Receiving this AIP from a recognised organisation such as ABS sets Veer apart from other conceptual projects. We are making significant progress – you can feel that it’s really happening.”
Veer has shared a statement of support from sustainable cosmetic company Lush, which has stated its commitment to decarbonise its global transport through partnerships with innovative organisations like Veer.
Veer looks forward to receiving tender responses to its bid package from shipyards, and aims to have selected a shipyard by the end of 2022, and to begin shipping with two vessels by the end of 2024.
The 100m container vessel design feature a modular approach and a long lifespan. Veer will provide clean shipping using DynaRig sail technology paired with green hydrogen fuel cell engines.
