Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (Mitsui E&S) has received a letter of Intent (LoI) for four methanol-fuelled engines, to the MAN B&W 6G80ME-C10.5- LGIM-EGRTC design, for container ships to be built by Japan Marine United Corporation of Yokohama.
With this LoI, the total number of methanol-fuelled engines ordered by domestic shipyards from Mitsui E&S is now17. Eight of these engines are the G80ME-C10.5-LGIM, the largest type in the lineup, including the first four units ordered in the first half of 2023. To meet the increasing demand for large dual-fuel marine engines, the company has been increasing production capabilities since 2022 and is building an organization to provide a stable supply of dual-fuel engines.
In addition, since delivery of the world’s first methanol-fuelled engine in 2015, Mitsui E&S has accumulated knowledge regarding maintenance and inspection services. By leveraging that experience, it believes it can provide methanol-fuelled engines with peace of mind. As a marine propulsion system supplier, Mitsui E&S continues to contribute to a low-carbon and decarbonised society in the field of marine logistics.
