Deltamarin of Finland has signed a design contract with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) for the design and engineering of Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s next-generation Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs).
The contract includes the complete basic and detail design work for four confirmed, and up to eight optional, units of 9,350 CEU class methanol dual-fuel PCTCs ordered by Wallenius Wilhemsen. Prior to this engineering contract, Deltamarin executed the outline and contract design of the new vessels.
Known as the ‘Shaper’ class, the vessels represent Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s commitment to environmental goals, contributing to the company’s aim of achieving net-zero emissions solutions by 2027. Prioritising energy efficiency, the vessels are designed to utilise alternative fuel sources, such as methanol, upon delivery. They will be delivered ammonia-ready in order to be converted as soon as ammonia becomes available in a safe and secure way.
The vessels will be built at the Jiangsu shipyard, with the first vessel scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2026. China Merchants Group has demonstrated significant growth in its shipbuilding business over recent years and is now positioned among the top three shipbuilding groups in China.
