At an Artificial Intelligence (AI) forum hosted by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Group and Seoul National University, accelerating the development of AI technology was described as key for innovation in the shipbuilding and marine engine industry.
The forum was planned and conducted by Chung Ki-seon (pictured), president of HD Hyundai, as part of the ‘Smart Ocean Mobility’ course programme at Seoul National University Graduate School. The event was attended by about 300 AI experts from domestic and foreign industry, academia, and research institutes, including President Jeong Ki-seon and Seoul National University VP Choi Hae-cheon.
The forum started with a keynote speech on ‘Core Machine Learning Technology for Industrial Application’ by Prof Han Bo-hyung of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Seoul National University. In a session centred on data and AI, experts from big data companies such as Palantir, MS, AWS, and OneWeb, who are continuing cooperation with HHI in the field of digital transformation (DX), presented papers on the development of AI technology for digital innovation.
Jeong Ki-seon, CEO of HD Hyundai, said: “I believe that AI technology can be used to achieve fundamental innovation in the shipbuilding and marine industry. We will do it.”
Choi Hae-chun said: “We expect that this first AI forum with Hyundai Heavy Industries Group will serve as an opportunity to further promote cooperation between the two institutions in the future.”
HHI Group affiliates such as Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Genuin, and Avicus, as well as Hyundai Motor Company, LG Electronics, Microsoft (Microsoft), Palantir, AWS (Amazon Web Services), OneWeb, Deloitte, PwC, and Korean Register of Shipping, as well as professors from Seoul National University and KAIST, appeared as speakers.
