The One Sea ecosystem is a collaborative effort between various parties with an interest in digitalisation and automation of the maritime transport, which aims to have fully autonomous ship technology ready for 2025.
One Sea says it gathers key players of the marine industry in an ecosystem that speeds up the development process by bringing innovations to market faster. The aim of launching this collaboration for an autonomous ships ecosystem in 2025 is carried out by joining the efforts of pioneering marine and technology suppliers, shipyards and ship owners as well as those of research organizations in a large co-creation ecosystem.
With this in mind, One Sea has published a white paper, downloadable here, which outlines the terminology for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) and defines the levels of automation in shipping, with the aim of establishing an international regulatory framework.
