Chemicals company Infineum recently hosted a Marine Symposium, focusing on decarbonisation and sustainability, in which the Greek shipping community discussed ways to meet emissions reduction regulations and explore routes toward a low-carbon, sustainable future.

The symposium, themed Targeting Net Zero, supported Infineum’s ambition to be the partner of choice in driving decarbonisation and sustainability efforts across the maritime sector as it moves towards net zero by 2050.

Andrea Ghionzoli, Infineum Strategic Marketing Manager, Marine and Large Engines, said: “The content shared at the symposium underscores our commitment to the maritime industry and aligns seamlessly with Infineum’s overarching purpose of creating a sustainable future through innovative chemistry. By addressing key industry challenges and customer needs, we are reaffirming our dedication to developing products and pioneering solutions that are not only effective but also drive decarbonisation and sustainability in the maritime industry.”

George Saroglou, COO Tsakos Energy Navigation, delivered an opening address, sharing insights from trials using Infineum marine additives to address fuel stability issues. The event then focused on various strategies to meet current emissions reduction targets and future decarbonisation goals. It emphasised the importance of ensuring that fuels, fuel additives, and lubricants work cohesively to comply with regulations without compromising on performance.

Andrea Ghione, Infineum’s Industry and Infrastructure Director, said: “The success of the symposium has significantly bolstered our position as a thought leader within the maritime industry. The event served as a platform to discuss pressing industry issues and demonstrated our dedication to developing innovative solutions for a sustainable future. Additionally, Infineum has recently published a whitepaper, co-authored with our distributor World Fuel Services, on The Role of Additives in Reducing Marine Fuel Emissions and Enhancing Engine Efficiency, further cementing our role in offering valuable insights and thought leadership. The positive feedback and engagement we received have undoubtedly enhanced Infineum’s standing as a trusted partner in driving decarbonisation and sustainability efforts across the maritime sector.”

Kiko Franchini, Customer Centricity Manager, added: “The inaugural Infineum marine symposium is a clear testament to our commitment to placing our customers at the heart of everything we do. By bringing together key stakeholders from the Greek shipping community, we have created a platform where their voices are heard, challenges addressed, and their needs are met with tailored, innovative solutions. This event highlights our dedication to supporting the maritime industry and reinforces our unwavering focus on customer-centricity. We understand that our success is intrinsically linked to the success of our customers, and we are dedicated to helping them navigate the path to a sustainable future.”
