TWO ELECTRIC FERRIES FOR NORWAY TO BE BUILT IN TURKEY

Sep 11, 2024 | Ship design & naval architecture news

Norwegian Ship Design has signed a comprehensive design and engineering contract for two electric ferries to be built at Özata Shipyard in Turkey.

The ferries will be 76.85m long and will have the capacity to carry 202 passengers and 60 vehicles. The battery capacity is 1960 kWh. Design and development of the emission-free ferries is being carried out in close collaboration with operator Torghatten Nord, and they will operate on the Festvåg–Misten route, connecting the road between Bodø and Kjerringøy in Nordland. The ferries contribute to another emission-free and environmentally friendly fjord crossing, aligned with Torghatten Nord’s forward-thinking focus on green fleet renewal.
