Netherlands-based maritime solutions provider Varuna Marine Services has launched its latest product designed to support compliance with the FuelEU Maritime initiative.
The FuelEU Maritime regulation, part of the European Green Deal, sets ambitious targets for reducing the carbon intensity of shipping fuels. It mandates that ships calling at European ports progressively increase their use of cleaner fuels, thus reducing their overall carbon footprint. The regulation applies to all ships of 5,000gt and above, irrespective flag state, covering 90% of the GHG emissions from the maritime sector.

Varuna Marine Services’ flagship platform, CyberSmart, leverages AI and machine learning to streamline maritime operations, ensuring that vessels meet the stringent criteria set by the regulation. Additionally, through its integration with DNV’s Veracity Partner program, Varuna offers data management and verification services, essential for accurate compliance reporting.
In collaboration with industry partners, Varuna Marine Services ontinues to develop and implement strategies that facilitate the maritime industry’s transition to a low-carbon future. The company’s expertise in the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) and its global network of surveyors are considered crucial assets in helping clients achieve compliance with the new regulations.
Additionally, Varuna Marine Services has formed new strategic partnerships with two other organisations. The first, with Napa of Finland, integrates NAPA’s advanced voyage optimization solutions into Varuna Marine Services’ CyberSmart platform, offering innovative tools for efficient route planning, fuel consumption management, and emissions reduction. In the second partnership, with RINA, the Italian classification society’s Leonardo Emission Partner is to be integrated into CyberSmart. This collaboration is set to provide advanced emission reporting and compliance solutions for the maritime industry, addressing the growing demand for sustainable practices and regulatory adherence.
