Gondan Shipbuilders has signed of a new contract with Østensjø Rederi for the construction of an innovative ocean energy support vessel (OESV), which the yard says marks another milestone in its commitment to delivering specialised, high-quality vessels tailored to the evolving needs of the offshore energy sector.
The new 120m OESV, to be built at Asturias, Spain, will feature a 23m beam and will accommodate up to 180 personnel in high-standard daylight cabins. Designed by Salt Ship Design of Norway, the vessel is equipped to perform a range of offshore operations, including inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR), construction, walk-to-work services, and cable laying. Its design offers the flexibility to deliver various services on a single operating platform, ensuring adaptability to different market demands.
In collaboration with an owner that is at the forefront of sustainable operations, Gondan’s commitment to sustainability is said to be further strengthened through this project. The OESV will be powered by an advanced hybrid propulsion system, integrating battery technology with other energy-saving innovations such as heat recovery systems. This design aligns with Gondan’s environmental objectives and supports Østensjø Rederi’s role in driving the maritime industry toward a low-emission future.
VP Astilleros Gondan, Álvaro Platero Alonso, said: “Our relationship with Østensjø Rederi began over 20 years ago, starting a successful journey of collaboration. Together, we’ve consistently advanced maritime innovation, delivering some of the most cutting-edge vessels in the industry. We are proud to build and deliver this new ocean energy support vessel for Østensjø Rederi, further strengthening our long-standing partnership for many years to come.”
The ship is scheduled for delivery in 2027.
