24 METHANOL-FUELLED BOXSHIPS FOR EVERGREEN

According to a Taiwan stock exchange announcement, Taiwanese ship operator Evergreen Marine Corporation has contracted with two Asian shipyards for a total of 24 dual fuel containerships, ready for operation on methanol fuel.

The total contract value is put at around US$ 5bn. Samsung Heavy Industries of South Korea has won the order for 16 vessels each of 16,000 TEU, while the other eight, of similar capacity, will be bult at Nihon Shipyard in Japan.

The orders are believed to have been placed by Evergreen’s Singapore-based subsidiary Evergreen Marine Asia. Scheduled delivery dates have not been released.
